Numo and Zamin

Numo in grayish white and Zamin in charcoal black have become the best of friends brought together in my home by fate. Actually Zamin treats Numo like her biological sister though they are from different mothers. She cuddles her, scrubs her with her tongue, and their everyday business is to play with each other until they would get completely exhausted. In other words, they love each other dearly.
Well, you might wonder how these kittens landed up in my home. The black one came first. If the cat is black, no one wants it for a reason that we Bhutanese believe black cats bring us bad luck. Some say, if black cats crossover a dead body, it turns into rolong (zombie). Some say, black cats crossing the road ahead of us is a bad omen. Against all beliefs, we got it adopted or else she would have been mauled to death by stray dogs.
About two weeks ago, a cat meowed in agony and as I opened the door, this cute kitten, Numo, showed up crying for help. Bruises on her nose and her crippled hand confirmed that she escaped the jaws of dogs. She was starving and skinny. Though we already have Zamin to look after, we had to let her in. Before that, I looked for an owner if there was any but no one claimed for it. I don’t know why but not many wants cat at home these days. Since no one showed up to claim, we knew, it was an abandoned kitten. Now Numo has gained some weight and she has very well recuperated from the wounds she suffered earlier.
They are now our babies and bosses.
