HIS HOLINESS JE JAMPAI TOBZANG FROM GASELO

Je Jampai Tobzang.

Two years after Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuck was enthroned the First Hereditary Monarch of Bhutan, Jampai Tobzang rose to the spiritual pinnacle as the 51st Je Khenpo of Bhutan. His Holiness was from Goem Sarbu in Gase Tshogom under Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag. As the Abbot, he reigned the Central Monastic body from 1909 to 1912.

During His Holiness' tenure, sometime in January 1910, a representative of the Central Monastic body accompanied King Ugyen Wangchuck to Gangtok (as one of the council members) and successfully concluded the crucial Treaty of Punakha. The British Political Officer then was Charles Bell. Going by the available historical account, this was a rare representation of the Central Monastic body in a political mission afield.
