It has been a while that I have been meeting civil servants, corporate and private employees, educated individuals and LG leaders hailing from the 8 Gewogs of Athang-Thedtsho constituency, Wangdue Phodrang. As we sit, we discuss issues and creative development ideas dedicated to our respective Gewog.
While water, road, electricity, dairy and agriculture productions are the primary needs we mustn’t forget to focus; we should equally deliberate on a sustainable future. Say, how to curtail rural urban migration and bring about sustainable income for the people so that village homes become ever livable. I believe there should be a concrete plan worked out for each Gewog. A target has to be set. Say for example, Gewog 2030 or Gewog 2045 borrowing the development concept from the Economic Roadmap which is in the making.
Even though educated lots stay far away from their village homes, I have learned that most stay well connected with their parents and relatives. Their concerns for their Gewogs are no less either. However, since development zomdus are customerily attended by folks back in rural homes, those in urban communities don’t get the right platform to express their views. In contrast, educated lots are better exposed hence better wave-length to think about the future. Always as I sit down with them, we could connect easily and there is fluidity in exchange of thoughts. Thus, with your ideas and mine combined, I’m positive that I can influence our Government, the LG leaders and the implementers better.
While we have industrious LG leaders, we cannot afford to leave the entire development responsibilities in their hands. Active participation from the citizenry, especially from the educated minds, is a must thing. Any idea extended to implementers through us will have a lasting impact. Sow now shall you reap later.
